The 76ers playoff dreams ended, however they now look to build during the off season for next year.

Philadelphia began the season with a 3-13 record, and then the coaches and players began to gel, and the end result was a competitive team that pushed to a 41-41 regular season standing, and a trip to the first round of the playoffs. Head Coach Doug Collins was the runner-up for NBA Coach of the Year honors, and the young nucleus of Jrue Holiday, Lou Williams, and Evan Turner showed a lot of potential and promise for years to come.

Veterans Andre Iguodala, and Elton Brand, have both showed confidence that the Sixers will continue to contend and get better. Everyone will work on their game and get better, from there they will seek to continue where they left off this year, in the next.

The 76ers faced elimination on Easter Sunday, against the Heat.

After losing the first three games of the first round NBA playoff series…the 76ers had an opportunity to force a Game 5 with a win. Philadelphia began on a high level, as they established a double-digit lead early in the 1st quarter…however Miami led by one 46-45 at the half.

The Heat continued to stay ahead of the Sixers until late in the 4th quarter, as the home team had excellent guard play from Evan Turner, Jrue Holiday, and Lou Williams.

When the team told Doug Collins in the huddle late in the game, “We’re going back to Miami,” his reply was a simple one.

“I’ll be there with you,” said Collins, the Sixers coach.

Williams sank a 3-pointer with 8.1 seconds left over Dwyane Wade, which proved to be the game winner. “D-Wade gave me a little room and I was able to knock it down,” Williams said. “We’ve always been a team that fought, all the way until the end. I just wanted to give us an opportunity to win the basketball game.”

Lou Williams and rookie Evan Turner led the team with 17-points each, while Andre Iguodala had 16-points, and Elton Brand added 15-points and 11-rebounds.

Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27th at 7PM EST.

The season began October 27, 2010 with the Sixers hosting the Heat at the Wells Fargo Center. With a rough 3-13 start, it would have been hard to believe that the 76ers would be in the playoffs…however the team learned to play together on both ends of the floor, en route to a .500 record and a matchup against Miami.

The 76ers are currently down 0-2, however games 3 and 4 will be played in Philadelphia, as the 76ers will look to push this series back to south Florida for a 5th game. Tonight is a nationally televised game, as the broadcast will begin at 8PM EST, on TNT.

The Sixers finished their first season under Coach Doug Collins with a 41-41 record.

With the 7th seed, the Philadelphia 76ers have earned a first round playoff matchup against the Miami Heat. During the regular season, the Heat swept the Sixers 3-0, however now that the 2010-11 campaign is over and in the history books, everything begins anew, and in the post season…anything can happen.

Andre Iguodala sat out the last game against the Pistons to rest his knee for the playoff push, and Lou Williams will also return after sitting out the last couple of games to rehab his hamstring. Both players will play a major role in the future of Philadelphia’s success…“I’ve never had more fun with a group of young men who, every single night, did everything they could to win basketball games,” Collins said. “Hopefully in the playoffs, we’re going to show you a little love.”

The 76ers adopted “showyaluv” as their team slogan.

Philadelphia’s 2011 NBA Playoff schedule is as follows:

Saturday, April 16th - Game 1: Philadelphia 76ers at Miami Heat, 3:30 p.m. (ABC)

Monday, April 18th - Game 2: Philadelphia 76ers at Miami Heat, 7 p.m. (TNT)

Thursday, April 21st - Game 3: Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers, TBD (TNT)

Sunday, April 24th - Game 4: Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers, 1 p.m. (ABC)

Wednesday, April 27th - Game 5: Philadelphia 76ers at Miami Heat*, TBD

Friday, April 29th - Game 6: Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers*, TBD

Sunday, May 1st - Game 7: Philadelphia 76ers at Miami Heat*, TBD

The Sixers fell to Boston 99-82, as they couldn’t keep pace with point guard Rajon Rondo, who had 16-points, and 13-assists to keep Philadelphia at a distance. “When we play a team like this, I told our guys we want to keep growing every single game,” Sixers coach Doug Collins said. “That’s why coming down this stretch these games give us a blueprint on what we have to do to beat these teams.”

Andre Iguodala had 10-points, 5-rebounds, and 3-assists in the loss. In other 76ers news, the team signed Antonio Daniels from the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League to replace Lou Williams, who strained his right hamstring on Sunday. Daniels has played 12 NBA seasons for Vancouver, San Antonio, Portland, Seattle, Washington and most recently New Orleans in 2008-09.

Tonight the Sixers will play the New York Knicks at the Wells Fargo Center. Game time is scheduled for 7PM EST.

The Sixers hoped to start gaining some momentum after clinching their spot in the playoffs on Friday and took an early double-digit lead, however a lackluster second half led to an overtime loss, despite 20 points and 12 rebounds from Elton Brand, and 7-points, 4-rebounds, and 2-steals from Andre Iguodala. The last time Philadelphia faced the Bucks they lost after having won 4 of their last 5 games in a row.

76ers coach Doug Collins said he had no plans to rest anyone prior to the playoffs with one more road game and four at home to end the season with the team potentially locked into the sixth place.

“I talked to our guys a little bit about it. I said, ‘That’s what playoff basketball is going to be about. They’re going to know all of our plays,”’ Collins said. “I know we picked it up back up in the fourth quarter. It’s a shame we couldn’t find a basket late in the game. We just couldn’t make one.”

The Sixers returned home last night, and will travel to Boston to face the Celtics on Tuesday, April 5th. The game is scheduled for 7:30PM EST.

A win over the visiting Nets seals a playoff berth for Philadelphia…and it didn’t take long for the 76ers to make their move as they ran away with the game from the outset. Elton Brand scored 21-points, and 7-rebounds in the Sixers 115-90 win. “Now, the fun starts,” Brand said. “Let’s see how good we can be.”

Thaddeus Young scored 22-points, Jrue Holiday added 17-points, and Andre Iguodala had 14 to lead the Sixers back to the postseason after missing the playoffs last year.

With a handful of games to play in the regular season…the Sixers are looking to finish up strong as they prepare for the NBA Playoffs. Jrue Holiday scored 24-points, and handed out 12-assist against Houston, and Thaddeus Young had 22-points off the bench, while Andre Iguodala added 9-points, 8-rebounds, and 10-assists, in a 108-97 76ers win.

The Sixers teamwork paid off big in their win, as they had 30-assists on 46 made baskets. Philadelphia put the Rockets away in the 4th-quarter with a strong 10-2 run, making the lead too much for the visiting team.

The 76ers are back on the court this Friday, as they will play the New Jersey Nets at 7PM EST.
